4th Generation of KOKEN volunteers- “More Than Words”- European Voluntary Service (EVS)
The end of an era…
“More than Words” was a European Voluntary Service project aiming on improving the personal and professional skills of young people.
The project took place in Nicosia (Cyprus) from 01/10/2017 until 31/03//2018 by the Cyprus Youth Clubs Organization- KOKEN.
The aim of this project was to enhance the feeling of volunteerism and motivate the young volunteers to take action in their life and at the same time create a world that is ‘more than words’. Active citizenship, European values and Volunteerism were only few of the values this projects was promoting during the whole period.
The partners in this project were:
Youth in Advance 18 (Greece)
Maison del’ Europe les Mans (France)
Team YouNet (Italy)
Alexia Vasileiadou from Greece, Vianney Cahen from France and Alessio Pantorno from Italy were the 3 EVS volunteers we hosted in this project. You can find more about who they are in their personal blog “More Than Words”.
Each one of them had their own tasks while at the same time they would cooperate in order to fulfill some other group tasks they had to do.
For example, Alexia organised a theatrical workshop for free for our local volunteers in Nicosia which was taking place at our offices once or twice a week.
Vianney, created amazing videos for our organisation’s visibility; and his creativity and skills in drawing have decorated more than one walls in our offices and Youth Clubs in general.
Finally, Alessio, assisted the European Projects Coordinator on drafting applications in relation to ERASMUS+ and in other tasks related to European projects in general.
Also, they participated at the on-arrival training and mid- evaluation training organised by the National Agency of Cyprus and contributed in the local community by sharing their experiences, expectations and wants from the European Voluntary Service program in general with the use of non- formal educational methods.
Alessio and Vianney attended their Greek lessons once a week as well while Alexia supported them all the time on their homework and talking with them in Greek.
Symeon Symeou, a local volunteer was also an integral part of this project since he was their mentor. Symeon, would help the EVS volunteers on whatever they needed and he would also take them to various places to get to know Cyprus and explore their new home.
Our EVS volunteers also joined us at our 50 years anniversary Christmas party as well as at the Carnival Celebrations the Youth Clubs organised.
